We’ve all been there. You’re in a situation where your home’s bathtub drain is clogged with what you can only presume is hair, dirt, soap, or some combination of those things. Whatever the cause might be, you want to fix the problem sooner rather than later, especially if you plan on taking a shower anytime soon.
Truth is, there are a few ways you could go about unclogging your tub drain — but did you know that it could be as easy as getting out a plunger and screwdriver? Just follow these steps!
You’ll Need:
- 1 screwdriver
- 1 standard plunger
- 1 wash rag or paper towel
Step 1. Remove the stopper from your bathtub. If your tub comes with a strainer, remove that as well.
Step 2. You’ll want a clean surface for your plunger. Use your paper towel or rag to remove any excess dirt or soap scum that has built up around the drain entrance.
Step 3. Fill your bathtub with a few inches of water, just enough so you can submerge the plunger and create proper suction.
Step 4. Just as you would with your toilet, use the plunger to suction out any obstructions in the drain. Place the plunger bowl over the drain entrance and quickly pump up and down.
Step 5. After about 10 to 15 plunges, pause to see if any dirty water or debris are coming up from the drain. If not, resume plunging.
Step 6. If you don’t see any dirty water or debris emerging, you may want to try a different method — or maybe just give a crew a call!
